Melon-size Growth Removed from Face

'Cursed' orphan's life radically changed
Girl's melon-sized growth on face removed by Mercy Ships surgeons

Angelle, who grew up as an orphan and was considered "cursed" because of the swelling on her face, recently received corrective surgery from the staff of Mercy Ships, the global charity that operates a fleet of life-changing hospital vessels.

Suffering from a growth that quickly became the size of a melon, Angelle was shuffled around from relative to relative during her childhood years. She felt hopeless until Mercy Ships came into her life.

"Angelle's life was changed forever," said the charity. "No longer does she feel cursed; she now walks with her head held high."

Donations to Mercy Ships impacts the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in developing nations each and every year. These are primarily people with little or no access to health care who have given up hope of getting well. Mercy Ships seeks to become the face of love in action, bringing hope and healing to the poor.
